JIM THORPE PA – One of the biggest annual events in Jim Thorpe PA is only three months away, the area’s tourism agency is reminding prospective visitors. Activities surrounding the return of colorful fall foliage in the southern Pocono Mountains is scheduled over four weekends.
A variety of tours, entertainment, dining, and vendor offerings will be held each Saturday and Sunday of the month: Oct. 7 and 8, 14 and 15, 21 and 22, and 28 and 29. Jim Thorpe, named for the Native American sports legend, is located 59 miles north of Pottstown.
The festival on each weekend features craft and food vendors, and scheduled live music throughout its busy downtown. Restaurants and merchants are providing several fall specials and pricing, the agency reported. Also available are tickets for train rides through the Lehigh Gorge, trolley rides around town, ghost tours at the Old Jail, and tours of the Asa Packer Mansion.
The bright colors of the fall trees, however, are anticipated to be the strongest draw. On Facebook so far, greatest visitor interest has been expressed in the final weekend, Oct. 28 and 29.
