BOYERTOWN PA – The latest exhibit at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles honors the “Back To The Future” movies by displaying an exact replica of the film’s most memorable car.
Museum guest curator Tom Silknitter has offered a “DeLorean time machine,” like that used in the 1985 and later films, as the centerpiece of the show. Its title: “Where We’re Going, We Don’t Need Roads: A Back to the Future Tribute.” It opens with a ticketed reception Thursday (June 22, 2023) from 5-7 p.m. at the museum, 85 S. Walnut St.
Tickets, priced at $10 for museum members and $15 for non-members, are available now by calling the museum at 610-367-2090. Museum Curator and Manager Kendra Cook said advance registration for the event is strongly recommended.
Silknitter’s tribute car was recreated using production notes and drawings, the museum reported. His “remarkable attention to detail, and in-depth research in recreating this iconic vehicle, is on full display,” it added.
So is Silknitter’s “impressive collection of Back to the Future memorabilia, from toys to DeLorean models to skateboards. Rare concept art from the blockbuster film trilogy will be featured,” along the production schematics.
The exhibit also features a ‘selfie station,’ modeled after the 1955 Enchantment Under the Sea prom from the first “Back to the Future” film. Silknitter is the author of “Build It With Some Style: Unauthorized Tales of the Time Machines from Back to the Future,” which will be sold in the museum gift shop. The exhibit remains on display through August.
More ‘Back To The Future’ events ahead
Several other events are scheduled to coincide with the exhibit.
- On July 22 (Saturday) at 1 p.m. the museum will host a special screening of the 2021 documentary film “88 MPH: The Story of the DeLorean Time Machine,” followed by a question-and-answer session with director Tom Quigley and others involved in the making the film. The event is free with museum admission.
- A second DeLorean time machine will be at the museum the same day, offering visitors the chance to sit in the car in exchange for a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
- On July 28 (Friday), the museum will host a trivia night beginning at 6 p.m. Participants will receive a special after-hours look at the museum, enjoy light refreshments, and test their “Back To The Future” trilogy knowledge. Advance registration is required for this event. Tickets cost $15 per person.
- The museum will host a book-signing and paperback sale on Aug. 12 (Saturday) at 2 p.m. Silknitter will lead a discussion about the creation of his tribute car, his collection of memorabilia, and be available to sign his book. Copies of “Build It With Some Style” will be available to purchase at the book-signing. The event is free with museum admission.

The museum is a non-profit organization founded in 1965 by Paul and Erminie Hafer. Its mission is to preserve and display examples of Pennsylvania’s road transportation history in the former factory buildings of the Boyertown Auto Body Works.
More than 90 locally manufactured cars, trucks, carriages, bicycles, and motorcycles are on display. So are two examples of roadside architecture: a 1921 cottage-style Sunoco gas station and a 1938 Jerry O’Mahony diner.
The museum is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission costs $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and AAA members; and those age 15 and younger are admitted free.
