SPRING CITY PA – The Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, adjacent to the church at 39 Bonnie Brae Rd., will be the focus Oct. 4 (2026; Sunday) of the annual cemetery tour conducted by the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society.

Zion Lutheran is one of the area’s oldest cemeteries, and is the final resting place of several Colonial Army soldiers. Both well- and lesser-known Spring-Ford area residents also are buried there.

The church itself was used as a military hospital during the Revolutionary War.

The cemetery tour is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for society members, and $15 for non-members. They are available for purchase online, or by calling call 610-948-7127.

Historical Society President Ryan Conroy will serve as its guide.

After The Cemetery Tour, A Free Concert

Following the tour, a free-to-attend concert that is open to the public will begin at 3 p.m. on the 1791 pipe organ in the church. Also call 610-948-7127 to reserve a seat at the concert.

The organ was built by master organ builder David Tannenberg, and “is famously known as the first organ in Chester County,” the society reports.

Big Band Due Dec. 20 at OJR for Swing and Holiday Zing

POTTSTOWN PA – “An unforgettable night of toe-tapping, heart-pounding holiday big-band music” is planned for Dec. 20 (2026 Sunday) in Pottstown,” the Pennsylvania Philharmonic has cheerily announced.

The Philharmonic’s Big Band of 18 “world-class musicians” will take the stage at 2:30 p.m. in Owen J. Roberts High School, 981 Ridge Rd. They will offer a 90-minute performance of timeless swing classics and holiday tunes.

Tickets, priced at $40 per person, are already available online.

Timeless Classics and Holiday Tunes

The show resounds with soaring trumpets, velvety saxophones, rich trombones, and a driving rhythm section. The audience will enjoy timeless swing classics such as Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” and “Moonlight Serenade,” and Benny Goodman’s “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

Also featured are Big Band arrangements of favorite holiday tunes that include “White Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

The Philharmonic describes the experience as “a full-sensory celebration, where every note sparkles, every beat makes you want to dance, and the warm, nostalgic spirit of the season wraps around you like a cozy blanket.”

The band also is scheduled to play earlier in the month, on Dec. 13 (Sunday) at 2:30 p.m., at Bucks County Community College in its Kevin and Sima Zlock Performing Arts Center, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown PA.
