HARRISBURG PA – Forty-five boroughs and townships across Montgomery, Berks, and Chester counties are due to receive a combined total of more than $57,000 in semi-annually returned Pennsylvania liquor license renewal fees.
That may sound like a small total, compared to other state financial distributions announced in the millions of dollars earlier this year. In fact, the amounts being sent to some of the 45 municipalities will be no more than $200.
Despite the size of the sums, they are sure to be accepted on behalf of municipal taxpayers. Municipalities can spend the license revenue however they choose. Most will deposit the revenue into a general fund.
Local fees were expected to be sent out earlier during September (2026) by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. They are part of more than $2.3 million in fees distributed statewide. The money is intended, the board says, to provide “financial support for local government initiatives.”
Twice a year, the board is required by law to return liquor license renewal fees paid by its approved licensees to the municipalities that those licensees call home. Licensees pay fees ranging from $125 to $700, depending on the type of license and municipality’s population.

Where the License Money is Headed
In Montgomery County, local license fee distributions amount to $31,190.
Recipients were the boroughs of Collegeville, $600; East Greenville, $600; Green Lane, $150; Norristown, $5,350; Pennsburg, $400; Pottstown, $2,200; Red Hill, $200; Royersford, $850; Trappe, $400; and the townships of Douglass, $800; Limerick, $4,350; Lower Frederick, $400; Lower Pottsgrove, $1,850; Lower Salford, $2,100; Marlborough, $200; New Hanover, $900; Perkiomen, $800; Skippack, $2,700; Upper Hanover, $650; Upper Pottsgrove, $200; Upper Providence, $4,250; Upper Salford, $400; West Pottsgrove, $1,000; and Worcester, $200.
Local distributions in Berks County total $17,900.
They included the boroughs of Reading, $13,800; Bally, $150; Bechtelsville, $150; Birdsboro, $400; Boyertown, $600; and the townships of Robesonia, $200; Amity, $1,200; Colebrookdale, $400; Douglass, $200; Oley, $400; Union, $200; and Washington, $200.
In Chester County, the total of local distributions is $8,350.
Included were the boroughs of Phoenixville, $1,400; Spring City, $400; West Chester, $4,550; and the townships of Charlestown, $200; Schuylkill, $400; East Vincent, $600; North Coventry, $200; South Coventry, $200; and Warwick, $400.
