Skippack, Two Counties' Projects Gain PennDOT Funds

Skippack, Two Counties’ Projects Gain PennDOT Funds

August 18, 2026

HARRISBURG PA – Montgomery and Chester counties will receive a combined total of more than $7.43 million in state grants for seven transportation improvements. One is planned in Skippack Township.

Money coming to Skippack is part of a statewide total of $54 million in highway, bridge, aviation, port, bike, and pedestrian projects. They were announced Monday (Aug. 17, 2026) by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

In all, 27 of the state’s 62 counties gained allocations from PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

Skippack is receiving $2,072,280 to install a new culvert at the intersection of Routes 73 and 113. The amount is included in $6,365,292 awarded for six projects in Montgomery County.

The Skippack project “will make significant improvements to a very busy intersection … so I’m excited that this $2 million grant has been awarded,” state 70th House District Rep. Matthew Bradford said.

The other four MontCo recipients are Cheltenham Township, $2,792,000; Franconia Township, $223,823; Lower Moreland Township, $1.2 million; and Rockledge Borough, $77,189.

Chester County also garnered PennDOT funds. It is receiving $1,074,118 for two projects.

One will reconstruct the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Avondale Borough. The other provides $429,000 to the Chester County Area Airport Authority to construct traffic and pedestrian signals on Lincoln Highway and Walter Johnson Boulevard.

No projects were reported by PennDOT in Berks County.

PennDOT “evaluated the applications and made selections based on qualifying criteria,” it reports. They included “safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency, and operational sustainability.”

The agency says its “new investments” will improve safety, strengthen local economies, and enhance mobility across the Commonwealth.
