POTTSTOWN PA – Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) will be acknowledged during September 2026 with an award from a national magazine that promotes “best practices in higher education excellence.”
The college will receive a “2026 Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award,” presented by Insight Into Academia magazine. The Wellness Center in North Hall, on the college’s Pottstown campus, earned the magazine’s attention, it said. MCCC’s “commitment to student and employee wellness” made it a winner, the magazine added.
Insight Into Academia will feature the college, as well as 37 other award recipients. This is the second year in which MCCC has received an award from the magazine, the college noted.
The magazine’s honor “is a measure of an institution’s individual programs and initiatives that significantly advance core values of student and employee mental health and well-being,” the college explained in an Aug. 6 (2026; Thursday) media release.
Insight Into Academia determined MCCC programs, initiatives, wellness services, and other campus priorities were “deserving” of recognition.

Wellness for Students
The Pottstown campus Wellness Center is the focus of the September award. The college also operates a similar center at its Blue Bell campus.
They provide students with in-person services and amenities, quiet spaces, and places to meet with staff counselors. Additionally, they operate “Stock Up for Success” pantries that offer food resources for those in need. Housing assistance and emergency financial support can be provided too.
Student wellness services supply virtual medical and mental telehealth services. They are free and can be accessed every day at any time. Mentoring and coaching programs also are available.
Overall, the wellness centers and services represent “a comprehensive, integrated service model” intended to meet student “holistic needs,” according to college Director of Wellness Services Dr. Nichole Kang.
Wellness for Employees
For employees, MCCC reports its Strategic Employee Workforce Plan “incorporates numerous services to assist them professionally and personally.”
They include career planning resources, mentoring and coaching programs, flexible work schedules, and on-campus childcare; paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave; mental health and well-being resources, access to employee wellness programs, and free access to campus gym facilities.
“This recognition reflects Montgomery County Community College’s ongoing commitment to supporting our employees and fostering a workplace where everyone can succeed,” Senior Director of Human Resources Shannon Schmidt observed.
“We strive to ensure every employee feels valued, connected, and equipped to do their best work while maintaining a healthy balance in their lives,” Schmidt added.
