POTTSTOWN PA – After years of planning, fund-raising, and construction, the Green Allies organization is ready to officially open its new conservatory and “GreenCup” café at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd.

Described by the non-profit group as “one of our greatest accomplishments,” Green Allies says the small building will serve as a classroom and meeting space. Its donations-only café also will be a place to relax and unwind amid nature.
The conservatory ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for April 25 from 10-11 a.m. at the arboretum, an Upper Pottsgrove Township park.
The group also will dedicate its “base of operations,” the property’s 1700s farmhouse that has served it well during the past 10 years and remains a part of its future. Members of the Althouse family, for which the arboretum is named, are anticipated to attend the ceremony. It will be followed by refreshments.
Green Allies is led by its founder and executive director, environmental educator Ken Hamilton. It works to empower and support students and their sustainability efforts. It also looks to develop student leadership by designing and implementing education programs.

The conservatory project was planned and designed by its student leadership team, Hamilton reports. Their countless hours of work on the new building makes it “one of our greatest legacy projects,” he adds.
