BIRDSBORO PA – Pennsylvania observes its 345th birthday on March 8 (2026; Sunday), and as it does annually the Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Rd., will join the celebration.
Free admission and a day filled with activity is being offered during the homestead’s open house, from noon to 4 p.m. It marks the occasion formerly known as Charter Day, which the state recognizes as the day William Penn received his land grant for Pennsylvania from King Charles II of England in 1681.
For a family of two adults and two children, the event represents an admissions savings of about $32.
The homestead and its group of volunteers, the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates, say they are presenting a living history event that features 18th Century demonstrations, trade craft, and hands-on activities.
The site is the birthplace of famed frontiersman Daniel Boone, born in 1734. It is located near Baumstown, between Pottstown and Reading, one mile north of U.S. Route 422.
Inside The Boone House
Visitors can enjoy open-house tours of the Boone House, and learn about the three families who lived there during the 18th and early 19th centuries. Volunteers will cook a hearty meal over an open hearth and discuss the “6 Weeks of Want,” which deals with winter hardships endured at the homestead.
The house, constructed in three stages throughout the 18th Century, is a 10-room stone structure. It is fully furnished to the period, and located on 579 acres of rolling countryside.
In the house parlor, guests can view an apothecary display, and learn about 18th Century medicine.
Crafts, Activities, and Historic Buildings

Other buildings in the historic area will also be open for viewing. They include including its smokehouse, blacksmith shop, homestead barn, and the Bertolet Log House.
Throughout the historic area, volunteers will demonstrate spinning, black-smithing, and gun-smithing. In the craft shop, visitors can try writing with a quill pen, and learn about 18th Century education. Families can enjoy colonial toys and games there, too.
Although admission is free, donations will be welcomed. Neither pets or smoking are allowed on the site, but service animals are permitted. Several activities and demonstrations may depend on weather conditions.
The program is funded and presented by the non-profit Homestead Associates. The site is owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, which is the state’s official history agency.
