Anticipate Snowfalls of 16-22 Inches

Weather Journal: These Local 'Winners' Got Most Snow
Blowing and drifting snow will make driving difficult, if not impossible, the National Weather Service predicts

MOUNT HOLLY NJ – The National Weather Service rarely uses the words “potentially historic” to describe anything.

But it did – Sunday (Feb. 22, 2026, at 6 a.m. – in alerting residents of a “potentially historic winter storm (that) will impact the region through Monday” (Feb. 23). “Record breaking snowfall totals are possible,” it warns.

It specifically mentioned western Montgomery County, and its boroughs of Pottstown and Collegeville; and all of Chester County, including its boroughs West Chester, Oxford, Honey Brook, and Kennett Square, as being affected.

The storm is expected to develop during Sunday, affecting portions of the TriCounty region with what the weather service called “very heavy, crippling snowfall, and areas of blizzard conditions.”

The Mount Holly-based bureau serves the greater Philadelphia area and surrounding counties. It predicted “precipitation would develop today, changing to all snow this afternoon and evening.” A light rain was falling across Pottstown at 6:45 a.m.

Highest-severity conditions and heaviest snowfall are expected Sunday night, it adds. Snow gradually will taper off during the daytime Monday.

Snowfall Amounts and Wind Gusts

The weather service has declared a “winter storm warning” until Monday at 6 p.m. Its concerns focus on total snow accumulations of between 16 and 22 inches. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Snowfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour. Locally higher snowfall amounts are possible, according to the service.

“Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” the service says, in part because “areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.” White-out conditions possible, it indicates. Additionally, gusty winds could bring down tree branches and result in isolated power outages. Hazardous conditions “will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.”

For those who must travel, the service suggests drivers keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles in case of an emergency.
