HARRISBURG PA – If you drive an electric vehicle (EV) in, around, or from and to the TriCounty region, more charging options are coming your way, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reports.
The department on Thursday (Feb. 19, 2026) said it was making $34 million available “to bring EV chargers to neighborhoods” across the state’s southeast portion. It covers Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties.
The funds being provided under a federal effort called the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. Gov. Shapiro says he has allocated $100 million for the chargers project.
Berks County EV drivers also will see similar money come their way this year, but in a later period. The remainder of the $100 million is expected to be divided between the West, East (including Berks), and Central portions, in that order.
PennDOT says “all publicly available locations within the region are eligible to apply.” However, local transportation planning agencies will determine when and where money will be directed, it adds.
