POTTSTOWN PA – Senior citizens, who may be in need of help in selecting a government-provided medical insurance policy before their opportunity to do so expires, can attend a free Pottstown seminar on the topic.
The Health Care Forum is being conducted by independent benefits specialist Karene Johnson, and is sponsored by the Pottstown branch of the NAACP and Joanne Washington Inc., a public benefit corporation. It is scheduled for Jan. 23 (Friday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ricketts Center, 658 Beech St.
Light refreshments will be served. No reservations are required. For more information, call Joanne Washington at 844-446-2556.
Participants should bring their personal identification, Social Security number, physician’s name, and income and household information. Answers will be offered to their questions, and for those interested arrangements have been made to apply on the spot for insurance coverage.

Foreseeing A Need

Joanne Washington, the founder and CEO of the business that bears her name, says she was motivated to hold the forums by recent circumstances.
“With the recent cuts at Pottstown Hospital … and all the changes at the federal level,” Washington explains, “I felt like the community really didn’t know what was going on.” She anticipated “a lot of our seniors might need help signing up. We definitely don’t want them to go without the health care they need.”
Johnson will explain how the insurance programs work, present best insurance options, and discuss how coverage carries long-term benefits. “My goal is to ensure the community has a clear understanding of their coverage options and feels supported throughout the sign-up process,” she adds.
Computers will be set up at each location, enabling people “to apply on the spot,” Washington notes. She also is an NAACP member, and serves as chair of the branch Health and Wellness Committee.
