ROYERSFORD PA – A new look, new security features, and new comfort have been introduced at the formerly open-to-the-weather pavilion behind the museum of the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society, 526 Main St.
The existing pavilion has been in use for years. It serves as a spacious gathering place particularly suited to the society’s Family History Program series, and other scheduled events held during warmer weather. But during spring, fall, and winter seasons – or when inclement weather arose – activities sometimes needed to be planned elsewhere.

That may no longer be the case. The pavilion is now fully enclosed.
Its wide openings have been fitted with overhead glass doors that let in the light while shielding occupants from the elements. Sliding glass doors at both ends conveniently help visitors move in and out of the space. New ceiling fans and upgraded LED lighting is installed. Some interior surfaces received a new coat of paint, and attractive accents.
All have been made possible, the society reports, thanks to “generous donations” from members Dawn Shaner, and Jim and Beverly Oehlert. Society funds helped pay for the electrical work, as well as for a new sidewalk to one of the side entrances.
Functionality Put to the Test
The pavilion’s functionality was put to the test during a Dec. 20 (2025; Saturday) visit to the museum by Santa Claus. His temporary office, thousands of miles from the North Pole, was set up inside the pavilion.

Photos of children with Santa were free to obtain, taken by society member and photographer Joe Evans. Another donor, Cathy Calhoun of Calhoun Jewelers, supplied a new backdrop and frame to enhance the pictures.
“We are so excited about this new space,” the society proclaims in its Christmas Day (Dec. 25) newsletter, “and were very pleased to be able to use it for the first time during our Santa pictures event.”
Enclosing the pavilion also gives the museum more opportunities to capitalize on its usable square footage. Because the pavilion is secured and protected, volunteers and staff can set-up and display items there in advance. “To say we are excited about this very welcome addition to our facilities is a huge understatement,” the society says.
