POTTSTOWN PA – Construction of a new $2.4 million bridge, which carries South Pleasant View Road traffic over Sanatoga Creek in the southeast portion of Lower Pottsgrove Township, has been completed six weeks ahead of schedule, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reports.
Replacement of the existing 50-foot-long, 94-year-old structure began with its closure in May 2025, PennDOT says in a Thursday (Dec. 24) e-mail. The new bridge, it adds, is 58.5-foot-long and “slightly wider.”
Additionally, the work “slightly shifted the bridge to the southern (upstream) side of the structure,” according to the agency. “This minor shift improves the angle of the intersection with Linfield Road, as well as improves the curve radius just north of the structure for safety purposes.”
H&K Group Inc. of ac is the project’s general contractor. The work was fully paid for by federal funding, PennDOT notes.

Built for Existing, Expected Traffic
PennDOT says it sought to build not only a structurally sound replacement, but also one “capable of efficiently and safely handling the existing and expected traffic.” The bridge serves in part heavy truck traffic due to its proximity to the Sanatoga Quarry, and offices and garages for Pottstown Trap-Rock Quarries.
South Pleasant View also receives occasionally increased traffic for activities at nearby Sanatoga Park on South Sanatoga Road, and as access from Linfield Road to the entrance at the Constellation Energy nuclear generating facility.
Changing the bridge also provided PennDOT with the ability to ensure its “hydraulic capacity” can adequately handle the flow of Sanatoga Creek, it says.
Traffic during construction was re-routed in a detour that relied on East High Street, Rupert Road, Evergreen Road, and Linfield Road. The now-finished bridge was slated to re-open Jan. 8 (Thursday).
