Boone Homestead Celebrating Holiday in 18th Century Way

Boone Homestead Celebrating Holiday in 18th Century Way

November 19, 2025

BIRDSBORO PA – An 18th century American Christmas – a time for celebration, feasting, and frivolity – will reappear Dec. 7 (2025; Sunday) from noon to 4 p.m. as the historic Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Rd., presents “A Homestead Holiday.”

It’s a day in which visitors can learn about English and Pennsylvania German holiday celebrations, listen to the Homestead Carolers, say “hello” to Santa and the Belsnickel, and enjoy Christmas crafts and activities. Throughout the historic area, visitors will hear about different Christmas traditions of families who lived on the property 300 years ago, as they tour its festively decorated buildings.

In the Boone House, volunteers will cook a Christmas meal in the hearth and talk about the English Christmas traditions. Visitors can enjoy the English and German parlors decorated for the season. Visit the Blacksmith Shop and the Homestead Barn during a walk up to the Bertolet Log House. The Pennsylvania German log cabin will be open for tours regarding its unique architectural history.

Join the Homestead Carolers as they wander across the historic area singing holiday medleys. Holiday crafts and activities are planned for children, including a Christmas scavenger hunt. Upon completing the hunt, children will receive a holiday treat bag. Complimentary hot chocolate and hot wassail will also be available throughout the afternoon.

Keep an eye out for the Belsnickel, who will stop by the Homestead for a visit. The Belsnickel, part of 18th century rural Pennsylvania German Christmas lore, is much different from today’s jolly Santa Claus.
