POTTSTOWN PA – Pets attending Saturday (Sept. 13, 2025) at the 14th annual Pottstown Pet Fair in Memorial Park appeared, at least to one human observer, to have the same goal in mind.
Freedom to roam!
Owners held leashes tightly as their pets – mostly dogs, but including a variety of four-legged life – strained to inspect passers-by. They nosed through clothing and, in one case, the contents of a blue-colored bag set on the ground.
They generously let visitors touch them … if only for a moment or two. As might be expected, they also sniffed around others of their kind.
Saturday presented itself as a perfect day for such exploration. The sun shone brightly. Temperatures were pleasant, with an occasional hint of breeze. Over four hours, hundreds of people arrived to enjoy the event. There was plenty of free parking, as well as filled-to-the-brim bowls of water for any thirsty creature wrapped in fur.
The fair’s organizer, the borough Parks and Recreation Department, worked for months to successfully attract more than 60 vendors and animal rescue operations. Most staffed booths or occupied spots along a lengthy walking path. All appeared happy to answer questions about their work, and eagerly rang up sales, accepted donations, or solicited volunteers.
At the department’s welcome tent, a majority of guests picked up recycled totes filled with information and small gifts. The bags proved more useful, though, to store a multitude of new items and brochures collected as they strolled from booth to booth.
One of the busiest places in the park was a perennial favorite, the children’s petting zoo.
Young ones, braver than many accompanying adults, moved up close and personal to sheep, goats, and more animals vying for attention. Zoo operator Party Animal Express provided brushes and other tools for use by kids who fancied themselves as pet groomers. None of clients with hairy coats seemed to mind.
If the kids’ interest in petting waned, the fair offered additional activities and entertainment beyond the pets.
Art Fusion 19464, a non-profit community art center, and Pottstown Community Arts set up tables to create fun take-home crafts and decorations. Cub Scout Pack 146 of Pottstown demonstrated handmade paper sailboats. Silvermoon Alpacas of Pennsylvania displayed towering members of its furry family.
For those who grew hungry, seven different food and snack providers were ready and waiting to satisfy patrons.
