Fringe Arts Festival ‘Marginalia’ Opening in Pottstown

Fringe Arts Festival ‘Marginalia’ Opening in Pottstown

August 21, 2025

POTTSTOWN PA – Be ready in Pottstown for an on-the-fringe weekend of “the strange, the uncategorizable, and the in-between,” Anno Artem warns.

Fringe Arts Festival ‘Marginalia’ Opening in Pottstown

Anno Artem, the art gallery that opened during January on the second floor of 1 Security Plaza, is hosting a fringe arts festival called “Marginalia” on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 23-24). Events are planned at its space, and others downtown as well, to coincide with the gallery’s current exhibit of the same name.

Pieces produced by 13 highlighted artists were chosen for the free exhibit that runs through Aug. 31 (Sunday). They are intended to represent “works that don’t sit still” and “art that whispers in the margins,” gallery owners Anthony Nowack and Danielle Kangas say.

The gallery is open Thursdays from 7-10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 2-9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Digital images of the show also are available now for online viewing.

Beyond the exhibit, though, are three separate presentations of “performance that bleeds into ritual,” Kangas and Nowack report.

Sunday on the Fringe

On Sunday, Mélange Contemporary Dance Company will be featured in a show titled “A Moment of Sharing.” The performance, choreographed by Michelle Jones Wurtz, will consist of current and past works that demonstrate its dancers’ talents. The event is being held from 3-4 p.m. at the Cosmic Arts Studio, 310 E. High St.

The dancers will turn “downtown Pottstown into a living map of experimental expression,” according to the gallery webpage. Their performances are offered in collaboration with Mélange, located at the Pottstown Dance Theater, 72 W. Main St.

Their 50-minute performance will be followed by an audience question-and-answer session with the dancers and director. Tickets cost $15 and are available for online purchase and at the door.

Mélange uses “the talents of professional dance artists through live performances in modern dance, often enhanced with a jazzy verve as well as ethnic styles and multi-disciplines,” it explains. The company was founded in 2009 by Jones Wurtz, an international dance artist.

Cosmic Arts is a community arts and events space that offers special events, workshops, and performing arts presentations. It also includes a tea and alcohol bar, café, and an immersive gallery and lounges.
