Foodie: Artillery Brewing Opens; Manatawny Still Works Ends

In this week’s edition of Pottstown Foodie, the new location for Artillery Brewing Company in downtown Pottstown enjoyed its soft opening Wednesday. Also, the Manatawny Still Works has shuttered its operations on Circle of Progress Drive and closed its three bars.

Artillery Brewing Officially Opens Next Week

POTTSTOWN PA – An official opening of Artillery Brewing Company at 305 E. High St. is scheduled for the week of July 7, according to its recent Facebook post.

Why wait for that?

Although a specific celebratory date is not provided, a soft opening for its taproom and adjacent kitchen began Wednesday (July 2, 2025). Artillery’s open invitation to the public is to “swing by and grab a beer and a bite!,” now.

Renovations at its building, formerly occupied by Lastick’s Floor Coverings, have taken more than a year. Artillery worked hard, and successfully, to keep public interest high during the wait.

It persistently advertised from February through April in its search for bartenders, servers, and hosts. Outside the building during May’s Pottstown Nights Car Show, it poured tasting drafts of its products for samplers. It regularly featured photos of construction progress.

The kitchen side of Artillery’s new East High Street location will be operated by Pottstown-based Deezys Famous Cheesesteaks. Although best known for its food trucks, Deezys is catering to taproom patrons (it accommodates more than 100) with inside service. Its menu also is available to the general public from a take-out window on North Charlotte Street.

Artillery Brewing also operates at locations in West Chester and Drexel Hill PA.

Pottstown’s Manatawny Still Works Closes Abruptly

POTTSTOWN PA – The award-winning Manatawny Still Works on Circle of Progress Drive, a popular distillery and tasting room founded in 2013, abruptly and permanently closed its doors Sunday (June 29, 2025), the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

In addition to the Pottstown facility, the company also closed bars in East Passyunk, Fishtown, and Ardmore. It indicated it would end employment of its “incredible team of employees,” according to The Inquirer.

The Sunday closure was announced with only two days’ notice, in a social media post issued Friday (June 27). Customers with gift cards were given a limited time to redeem them. Some others with online orders were warned they may not be available for pick-up.

A management representative attributed the closing to two factors. The first was a decrease in purchases from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board on behalf of its Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores. The second was a decline, following national trends, in alcohol consumption after the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
