POTTSTOWN PA – Housing assistance, homelessness prevention, and home modification programs in Pottstown, Royersford, King of Prussia, Norristown, and elsewhere within the area will receive more than $3.8 million in project grant funding, state 146th House District Rep. Joe Ciresi reported Friday (June 13, 2025).
The money is intended to help eligible Montgomery County residents obtain secure, permanent homes, and provide existing homeowners with resources to repair their aging homes. The funds will ensure “that residents of modest means and the unhoused have a safe and secure place in which to live,” Ciresi says.
Locally, the grant releases include:
- $150,000 for Preservation Pottstown Inc., and its program to provide rehabilitation for seven units within the borough;
- $300,000 for the Montgomery County Housing Authority to replace the roof at Golden Age Manor in Royersford;
- $200,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, based in King of Prussia, to build and rehabilitate homes; plus
- $250,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, for its Critical Home Repair Program;
- $250,000 to Eternal Life Christian Center in Norristown for its Home Sweet Home project to rehabilitate properties that currently serve 29 low-income households;
- $400,000 to Montgomery County Your Way Home in Norristown for an Emergency Shelter Project that covers emergency shelter operations and services for at least 100 eligible households; plus
- $400,000 to Montgomery County Your Way Home, for its Supportive Services Project to help end or prevent homelessness for up to 100 individuals and families, as well as provide emergency street out-reach; and
- $400,000 for the Montgomery County Office of Housing and Community Development in Norristown to provide permanent subsidies for up to 100 eligible households.
Other Grant Winners in Montgomery County
Also offered within Montgomery County were grants of:
- $200,000 for Access Services in Fort Washington, to expand its rapid rehousing program for individuals with substance use disorders;
- $200,000 to Family Promise Montco PA of Ambler, for rental assistance to prevent homelessness and maintain home stability;
- $100,000 for the Housing Equality Center of Pennsylvania of Fort Washington, to provide fair housing counseling;
- $200,000 for the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania in Jenkintown, to expand community approaches to homelessness and eviction prevention models; and
- $200,000 to INC Public Benefit Corp.’s Live and Work Initiative.
County Benefits from Grants Awarded Elsewhere
In part benefiting Montgomery County housing needs, but located elsewhere, were grants of:
- $50,000 for Tri County Housing Development Corporation Inc., in Harrisburg, for its Homebuyer Counseling Program to help low-income families and individuals improve their housing conditions and learn about the responsibilities of homeownership; and
- $800,000 for Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network Inc. in Harrisburg, to provide legal advice and assistance to low-income households and families across the state to preserve housing and prevent homelessness.
Grant funds came from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund. Its main funding source is the state’s realty transfer tax, a 1% tax on real estate transactions. In this grant round, funding also came from Marcellus Shale impact fees.
