In this edition of Pottstown Foodie: Turtle Pops are born from a desire to have fun in a Pottstown kitchen. Also, Wawa in Lower Pottsgrove officially opens Thursday, following Royal Farms on Monday; a cool Father’s Day at Rita’s; and Berry Refreshers are back at Starbucks.

Turtle Pops: A Fun Idea Now a Pottstown Business

POTTSTOWN PA – The idea behind Pottstown-based Turtle Pops began as “a creative outlet,” its owners say; a way to express themselves in the kitchen, and have some baking fun. Like so many other fun things, though, it’s grown way beyond that.

Now a women-owned online business, Turtle Pops opened May 12 to offer a line of hand-made cake pops crafted “with care” in small batches and made to order. Its products have shown up at interesting places during recent weeks, primarily for local graduation celebrations.

Expect to see Turtle Pops pop-up booths at upcoming events too, according to its Facebook page. Among the first was its participation at last week’s PrideFest Chester County in Phoenixville.

Its “Pop of the Month” has been announced as a “Pride Pop,” a confetti cake with rainbow designs and sprinkles that’s already available to order on its website.

As with any start-up business, Turtle Pops’ services are evolving. A list of flavors of the month is being developed. An expansion of local pop pick-up points is coming soon, it says, and delivery may be available for a small fee.

More pop-up booths are planned as well. Want to know where, or make a location suggestion? Send an e-mail to Info@ShopTurtlePops.com). See its latest creations on Instagram, too.

Wawa, Royal Farms Now Open in Lower Pottsgrove

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Thursday (June 12) at 8 a.m. marks the grand opening of the newest Wawa store in Montgomery County, at 157 Evergreen Rd. in Lower Pottsgrove Township. And, as reported earlier in Pottstown Foodie, the newest Royal Farms store in the county grandly opened Monday (June 9) at 296 Armand Hammer Blvd., also in the township.

Wawa’s offering a variety of specials to commemorate the occasion. Free coffee will be available to all customers throughout the day.

The day’s real excitement, though, will be a hoagie-building contest between members of the township Police Department and the Sanatoga Fire Company. Their challenge? Which team can build the most hoagies in 3 minutes. Only one team will win a trophy, but both are being asked to designate a charity of their choice to receive $1,000 Wawa donations on their behalf.

Royal Farms’ opener was preceded by two days (June 4 and 5) of complimentary meal samples, for which area residents could download free tickets in advance. Its parking lot was bustling throughout the 48-hour period.

The bustle continued afterward, too, but probably wasn’t intended. Royal Farms promotional team set out flags and other decorations on Sunday (June 8) to alert the public of its next-day arrival. The visual hoopla unintentionally drew in traffic from the boulevard a day earlier than expected.

Let Dad Know You Care. Give Him Italian Ice?

POTTSTOWN PA – Father’s Day (Sunday, June 15, just in case you’ve forgotten) will be observed at Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard locations with a small $1 Italian ice treat for a guy even cooler than that.

Actually, to benefit from this gift, Dad’s progeny also must buy themselves an additional product valued at $1 or more. But, hey, sharing in the celebration is part of the fun, right? The offer is available only through the chain’s mobile app, and redeemable during business hours only on the big day itself.

The choice of flavor is all yours (well, Dad’s too), ranging from “tried-and-true” selections like Cherry to “bold picks” like Cotton Candy. Rita’s locations are found in Pottstown (2), Boyertown, Pughtown, Royersford, Birdsboro, Zieglerville, Phoenixville, Collegeville, and Pennsburg.

Summer Beverage Favorites Return to Starbucks

SEATTLE WA – Starbucks’ Summer-Berry Refreshers, which it says were a customer favorite last summer, has officially returned to its menus for 2025, QSR Magazine reports. They feature a blend of raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry flavors shaken with ice and poured over raspberry flavored pearls; or as options with lemonade or creamy coconutmilk.

The chain also introduced a new iced Horchata Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. It pairs Starbucks Blonde Espresso with horchata-flavored syrup, carrying warm cinnamon, sweet vanilla, and subtle nutty notes.
