SCHWENKSVILLE PA – A public summer barbeque, scheduled for June, can do more than put food in its diners’ stomachs. It could also help feed dozens of local families in need.
Daily Bread Community Food Pantry has set its “Summer Sizzle” fund-raiser for June 21 (2025; Saturday) from 1-4 p.m. at Heidelberg United Church of Christ, 251 Perkiomen Ave., Schwenksville. Daily Bread, based in Collegeville, is Montgomery County’s fourth largest charitable pantry for distribution of foods to the hungry.
The pantry’s many volunteers, who represent 99% of its staff, claim the Summer Sizzle is a great way to both “Treat your family and help to feed your community.” Its barbequed chicken dinners come complete with coleslaw, potato salad, and dessert, and can be picked up at the church’s drive-though on meal day.
Tickets are now available for purchase online. They may also be available on the day of the fund-raiser, but likely in limited supply.
Providing the dinner is Meat Wagon BBQ, which Daily Bread says last year won rave reviews for its pulled pork fund-raiser.
Proceeds from the Summer Sizzle will help Daily Bread continue its efforts to provide nutritional support for neighbors in need. The organization works to eliminate hunger in the Perkiomen Valley area by offering residents a variety of programs. It serves about 250 families, or 1,000 individuals, each month.
Public Goods, Contributions Also Help
Daily Bread is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon to accept perishable and non-perishable food items that have not passed their expiration date. It also accepts personal care items, and supplies for babies and pets as well. Its goal is not only to provide food, but also promote the value of nutrition, increase self-sufficiency, and instill hope.
Unable to attend the barbeque? Your donation can help too, Daily Bread says.
