Sustainable Living Made Easier, with May 17 Expo Activities

April 28, 2025

WEST CHESTER PA – A day filled with information about – and opportunities to enhance – sustainable living in Chester County is scheduled for May 17 (2025; Saturday) at West Chester University.

Sustainable Living Made Easier, with May 17 Expo Activities

The 2025 Sustainability Summit and Expo, promoted as “Chester County’s premier sustainability event,” is sponsored by the county Planning Commission. It runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., is free and open to the public, and will be held at the university Sciences & Engineering Center and Commons, 155 University Ave.

Advance online registration is required.

The commission says the expo allows the public “to network with local businesses about going solar, maintaining more sustainable landscapes, reducing waste, and other conservation practices. It’s intended to make “sustainability simple in everyday life,” it adds.

The summit begins at 10 a.m. with two back-to-back presentations: “Sustainable Energy” from 10:15-11 a.m.; and “Sustainable Landscaping” from 11:15 a.m. to noon. The same presentations will be repeated from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for afternoon attendees.

Presentations, Demonstrations, and Guidance

Other activities include an “Ask an EV Driver” car show (weather permitting), opportunities to chat with neighbors about their experience using solar or geothermal systems, rain gardens, and other devices; and displays by more than 40 vendors and community organizations.

“Chester County’s climate action plan has a bold goal of cutting 80% of greenhouse gas emissions county-wide by 2050,” county Sustainability Director Rachael Griffith explains. “To do that, we all need to work together. This event will provide homeowners, business owners, and community leaders with clear information and local resources to help everyone get involved in making a difference.”

The event also includes a free lunch for participants, and a native plant give-away.

West Chester University serves as the program’s presenting sponsor. Gold-level sponsors are TerraSol Energies and PECO Energy. Other companies and organizations also are providing sponsorship.
