POTTSTOWN PA – Four local Walmart stores – three in Montgomery County, and one in Chester County – will be part of the chain’s multi-million dollar remodel this year of 26 Pennsylvania locations. Overall, the effort will affect more than 650 stores nationwide.
The company, in a Wednesday (April 23, 2025) media release, says the make-overs will enhance the stores’ “associate experience and community engagement.” It reports the updates will include:
- New signage, as well as new displays to better showcase merchandise;
- Expanded departments and new items in stock, intended to align with what customers look for;
- Expanded online pickup and delivery, to fulfill growth in online customer orders; and
- Pharmacy upgrades, such as wider aisles, private screening rooms and privacy checkout areas.
Local stores due for the upgrades are in Pottstown, 233 Shoemaker Rd.; East Greenville, 620 Gravel Pk.; Norristown, 650 S. Trooper Rd.; and Elverson, 100 Crossings Blvd.
Enhancing Their Stores’ Role
“Our stores often serve as the heartbeat of the communities we operate in,” Walmart Senior Vice President Annie Walker says. “These remodels are a testament to our dedication to enhancing that role,” she adds.
At all four local sites, particularly in Pottstown and Elverson, Walmart itself seems to have benefited from increased traffic at adjacent commercial developments.
During the past five years, Walmart notes, it has invested more than $493 million to upgrade Pennsylvania stores.

At the Pottstown location, the company took several months to complete an expansion of about 55,000 square feet of retail and operating space, The Mercury newspaper reported in 2012.
