POTTSTOWN PA – Schuylkill River Greenway Association (SRG), the Pottstown-based non-profit that manages the river-focused national heritage area across portions of five counties, on Thursday (April 24, 2025) was named one of more than a dozen Pennsylvania winners of grants from the American Water Charitable Foundation.
The foundation is the charitable arm of American Water and its state subsidiary, Pennsylvania American Water. American Water says it is “the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S.”

The foundation says it presented SRG with a $10,000 grant for a project in which it and Exeter Township (Berks County) intend to develop a 3-1/2-acre property known as Reeser’s Landing. The association’s goal is to “connect local communities to the Schuylkill River” by providing “equitable access” at the landing. The property earlier was known as Exeter Boat Launch.
SRG has plans to create more parking capacity at the landing for trail users and vehicles with trailers. It also expects to upgrade the launch area, management of non-native vegetation, and improved educational and safety signage.
Reeser’s Landing is owned by SRG, and is a Schuylkill River Water Trail access point in Berks County, the association explains. It says the landing “is very popular for area boaters, and provides parking for the Exeter Township Scenic Trail and Schuylkill River Trail.
Norristown, Other Communities Benefit
Norristown Borough will benefit from the grant program too. Support from the Pennsylvania Resources Council helped the borough earn a $10,000 grant to “provide education and empower” borough residents to protect watersheds.
“American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation are important partners,” SRG Executive Director Elaine Schaefer notes. “Their support of conservation programs helps us complete our mission of making the Schuylkill River a healthy and accessible resource and economic driver for the communities in the watershed.”
The Pennsylvania awards represented a state-wide distribution of $180,000, the foundation reports. Grants were generally offered in amounts of $20,000, $15,000, $10,000, and $5,000. Grants of varying amounts also were presented in some or all of 13 other states where American Water serves regulated water or wastewater operations.
