Coventry Singers’ April 27 Concert Salutes Broadway

April 14, 2025

POTTSTOWN PA – A tribute to Broadway that features songs from popular current and former productions, as well as other choral pieces, is planned April 27 (2025; Sunday) by The Coventry Singers.

The community organization, now more than 50 years old, will present its spring concert at 3 p.m. in Cedarville United Methodist Church, 1092 Laurelwood Rd. The event is free and open to the public, although free-will offerings will be accepted.

Scheduled for the program are songs from Wicked, The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Porgy and Bess, The Music Man, and others. The singers also will perform the “Exultate Deo” by Scarlatti, “Alleluia” by Manuel, “Viva La Musica” by Brunner, “Riddle Song,” and the uplifting “Sing A Sing Of Sixpence” by Rutter.

The Coventry Singers is a group of auditioned singers dedicated to performing diverse and challenging choral music. During the past five decades it has offered “both major and lighter choral works, secular and sacred, and always with great joy and doses of frivolity,” it says.

The number of performers ranges between 30 and 40, and includes people from all walks of life. Some have professional musical experience, and some are and have been teachers of music. Many others, however, “are people who just love to sing and welcome musical challenges,” the group reports.

Its Director and Accompanist

Director Cheryl Markofski will again lead Coventry Singers as its musical director. She is a graduate of Florida State University with a master of music degree. She also has done graduate work in voice performance at the University of Texas. Markofski formerly taught music at Owen J. Roberts Middle School, and also is a noted soloist and voice coach.

Accompanist Eleanor Lundy will again perform with the singers. She has taught piano and served as musical director and substitute musician at several churches in New England and Montgomery County. Lundy is a graduate of Rosemont college.

Like to Sing? You Voice is Welcome

Coventry Singers describes itself as “a fun group of people coming together for the love of music and singing. We are always ready to welcome new voices,” it adds.

Those interested in joining The Coventry Singers for its coming Christmas concerts, scheduled for Dec. 6-7, are suggested to check its Facebook page or send an e-mail to coventrysingers@yahoo.com. Auditions will be held in September.
