Recycling events are planned in coming weeks to help area residents jump-start their spring cleaning tasks.
- Althouse Arboretum in Upper Pottsgrove will be the setting for metal and other materials recycling on March 22; and
- The first of six household hazardous waste collections, conducted by appointment only for Montgomery County residents, begins April 26 in Harleysville. They continue through October in Ambler, Norristown, Abington, Royersford, and Penn Valley.
Metal, Appliances Recycling at Althouse Arboretum
UPPER POTTSGROVE PA – The annual spring community recycling day conducted by student members of the non-profit GreenAllies organization is scheduled for March 22 (2025; Saturday). It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd., and is open to the public.

The effort is specifically prepared to accept “drive-through drops-offs” of large appliances like clothes washers and dryers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, ranges, stoves, microwave ovens, air conditioners with freon, dehumidifiers, and other metal units.
It also will accept anything made of metal or scrap metals except propane or oil tanks. Motors or engines must be drained of oil.
Additionally, recyclers will accept clothing and shoes (in separate plastic bags), household goods (utensils, small working electronics, hard and soft toys, knick-knacks, all placed in bages, but not furniture, pillows, or books), cords, cell phones, computer ink cartridges (but not toner cartridges), laptops, iPads or similar devices (but not computer equipment or televisions).
Vehicles will be admitted with a $10 donation; no other charges apply. Student volunteers will unload each vehicle. For more information, or answers to questions, send an e-mail to ken@green-allies.org.
