POTTSTOWN PA- Seventeen Pottsgrove High School seniors are among more than 40 members of the cast and crew, and an accompanying pit orchestra, ready to present the classic musical “Fiddler on the Roof” in three shows March 20-22 (2025).
Pottsgrove’s theater company has been rehearsing four days a week since January. It looks ahead to nightly performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, all at 7 p.m. in Richard Radel Auditorium at the high school, 1345 Kauffman Rd. Advance-sale tickets are available online now through March 20, and then at the door if seats remain.
Rich in Historic and Ethnic Detail
The musical is set “in the small village of Anatevka. It follows the story of Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and close-knit Jewish community, Tevye strives to protect his daughters and instill traditional values.” He faces “growing challenges of changing social norms and rising anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia,” according to producers.
“The show’s rich historical and ethnic detail, combined with its universal theme of tradition, resonates deeply across all barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion,” they add.
Famous songs from the show, which once held the record as Broadway’s longest-running musical, include “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Sunrise, Sunset.”
