POTTSTOWN PA – See the “imaginative” works of a Pottstown-based painter, or focus your eyes on the night skies for celestial wonders, both during March at facilities of Montgomery County Community College (MCCC).
Artistry in Pottstown
The college’s Pottstown campus features a new exhibit, “Meditations: Kayla Ackelson,” with a site-specific installation that opens March 21 (2025; Friday) with a reception from 6-8 p.m. at the gallery in North Hall, 101 College Dr.
It offers what MCCC describes as “imaginative” collage works by artist and designer Kayla Ackelson. “I believe art and good design should be accessible to everyone,” the artist writes on her website. “I enjoy working and creating in different art mediums, exploring the possibilities, and seeing what new combinations I can come up with.”
Her works have been the subjects of several solo exhibitions during the past 11 years, and of group exhibitions for far longer. He show at North Gallery runs through April 11 (Friday). The gallery is open Mondays though Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Sky-Watching in Blue Bell
A “community observatory night” is scheduled rain-or-shine for March 24 (Monday) from 8-10 p.m. at the MCCC Blue Bell observatory in the Advanced Technology Center, Room 304, on the college campus at 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell PA.
“Whether you’re an astronomy enthusiast or just enjoy looking up at the night sky, we’ve got a special treat” for the public, college Physics Assistant Professor Kelli Corrado explains. The campus’ “state-of-the-art observatory” includes a 16-inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and observation deck with additional telescopes.
The college also conducts astronomy classes on-site.
Its community night events are co-sponsored with local astronomy associations. Visitors of all ages are encouraged “to come out and gaze at the night sky.” No advance registration is required, and guests are suggested to wear appropriate clothing; events are not canceled due to weather.
Parents are expected to be responsible for their children. Also, visitors are asked to avoid bringing food, drink or chewing gum near the delicate scientific equipment.
