HARRISBURG PA – Thirteen local transportation projects are scheduled to receive grants totaling more than $3.3 million, after they won approval Monday (Feb. 24, 2025) from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
The projects were among 224 that will get authority money amounting to more than $87 million statewide, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger says. The authority is an independent agency of DCED, established in 2004 to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
Announcing the grant awards, and the active roles played by local legislators in securing them, were state representatives Joe Ciresi (146th District), and Donna Scheuren (147th District); and senators Tracy Pennycuick (24th District) and Katie Muth (44th District).
The funds were awarded locally in Pottstown, Upper Pottsgrove, Royersford, Upper Providence, Lower Salford, Skippack, Pennsburg, Green Lane, East Coventry, Schuylkill, Spring City, and Washington. They are part of the authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund program:
In Montgomery County
- In Pottstown Borough, for the Hobart’s Run Neighborhood District, $139,997, to repair sidewalks and install street lighting along Beech Street;
- Upper Pottsgrove Township, $301,500, to improve safety at the intersection of Cherrytree Lane, Gilbertsville Road and Sprogels Run Trail;
- Royersford Borough, $225,000, for streetscape improvements to Main Street and Walnut Street to support the Nelson Ice Cream Factory Redevelopment Project;
- In Upper Providence Township, for Hopwood Homes LLC, $250,000, to make pedestrian safety improvements and trail connections to Hopwood Road;
- Lower Salford Township, $449,250, to add a turn lane and sidewalk along Oak Drive;
- Skippack Township, $250,000, for traffic improvements at the intersection of Skippack Pike and Bridge Road;
- Pennsburg Borough, $168,876, for pedestrian and roadway safety improvements along Eleventh Street in Pennsburg and Red Hill boroughs, and Upper Hanover Township; and
- Green Lane Borough, $200,000, for pavement and restoration of borough streets.
In Chester County
- East Coventry Township, $350,000, to rehabilitate Ellis Woods Road Bridge;
- In Schuylkill Township, for PT Phoenixville LLC, $375,000, for traffic improvements at the intersection of Valley Forge Road and South White Horse Road;
- Schuylkill Township, $377,000, for preliminary engineering design of the Pothouse Road and West Bridge Street/Charlestown Road Intersection Improvement Project; and
- Spring City Borough, $100,000, to improve two crosswalk locations along Main Street.
In Berks County
- Washington Township, $116,782, to make pedestrian safety upgrades at an intersection along Niantic Road.
