ROYERSFORD PA – Eight elected officials representing residents of southeastern Pennsylvania will team up Wednesday in an effort to help their constituents understand the state’s requirements in obtaining a REAL ID.

The new, federally compliant form of personal identification is an enhanced driver’s license or personal ID card. By early May, either will be needed to board a domestic commercial flight, or enter a federal building or military installation that requires official identification.
The enforcement deadline “is quickly approaching,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll says. Although the federal identification is optional in Pennsylvania, “if you think you’ll need one, especially if you plan on flying, we recommend you start the process” as soon as possible, he urges.
It’s relatively easy to obtain a REAL ID, but it can be time-consuming and requires advance preparation. Those details and others will be part of the webinar scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 19, 2025) at 6:30 p.m. It will be broadcast to Zoom platform users who have registered in advance, and also will be live-streamed from the website of 44th District state Sen. Katie Muth.
Eight Legislators Involved in Webinar
Co-sponsoring the webinar with Muth are state Reps. Joe Ciresi, 146th District; Paul Friel, 26th District; Danielle Friel-Otten, 155th District; Kristine Howard, 167th District; Melissa Shusterman, 157th District; Joe Webster, 150th District; and Dan Williams, 74th District.
Presenting information on REAL ID will be experts from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Those who have questions can submit them when they register online at Muth’s webpage.
Muth reports the webinar will cover what documents are needed to get a REAL ID. It also is scheduled to include a questions-and-answers segment in which participants can have their own REAL ID questions answered.
