In Business: Four Local Banks Join 'America's Best;' Building Materials Supplier a 'Best Employer'

In this edition of local business news, see which four TriCounty region financial institutions are named to a 2025 list of “America’s Best Banks.”

Also, a construction goods company that operates near Pottstown wins a national “Best Large Employer” ranking.

Local Banks Win Title of ‘America’s Best’

JERSEY CITY NJ – Four Pennsylvania-based banks, all of which have locations in or provide services to customers in the TriCounty region, have been named to the 2025 list of America’s Best Banks. The list was published Feb. 5 (2025; Wednesday) by Forbes Media, headquartered in Jersey City NJ.

The nation’s 200 largest publicly-traded banks and thrifts by assets were eligible for the list. Forbes ranked the top 100 members of that group on 11 measurements covering growth, credit quality, profitability, and stock performance for the 12 months ending Sept. 30, 2024.

Local banks that made the list and their rankings are:

  • S&T Bank, ranked 46th of 100, with assets totaling $9.6 billion, operating branches in Chester County at Ludwigs Corner, Lionville, and Exton;
  • First Commonwealth Financial, ranked 68th, assets of $12 billion, providing automated teller machine services in Montgomery, Berks and Chester counties at Pottstown, Stowe, Limerick, Royersford, Collegeville, Gilbertsville, Boyertown, Douglassville, West Douglassville, Bechtelsville, and Phoenixville;
  • Customers Bancorp, ranked 72nd, assets of $21.5 billion, operating branches in Chester County at Kimberton and in Berks County at Wyomissing and West Reading; and
  • Fulton Financial Corporation, ranked 81st, assets of 32.1 billion, operating branches in Montgomery County at Pottstown, Berks County at Exeter and Reading, and Chester County at Exton.

84 Lumber Lands on Forbes List of ‘Best Large Employers’

In Business: Four Local Banks Join 'America's Best;' Building Materials Supplier a 'Best Employer'

EIGHT FOUR PA – Building materials supplier 84 Lumber Company, which operates a facility at 1484 Ben Franklin Hwy. in Douglassville, was named Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2025) by Forbes Media to its list of “America’s Best Large Employers” for 2025.

The list is based on an independent survey of more than 217,000 U.S. employees working for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the country. 84 Lumber earlier received Forbes’ Best Employer recognitions in 2019, 2017, and 2016.
