Foodie: Tourism Board Names 14 Bars ‘Best’ for Philly Teams

Foodie: MontCo Tourism Names 5 Local Bars ‘Best’ for Philly Teams

February 6, 2025

KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Five local brew-and-chew spots are among 14 establishments named Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2025) by the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board as “Best Sports Bars” in Montgomery County. The list represents what the board says are its “favorite places” to “cheer on your favorite Philly teams.”

The county tourism promoter suggests its 14 selections are where fans on Sunday (Feb. 9) could “Cheer on the Birds!” while enjoying “wings, burgers, beer, and big screens.”

Said Birds, of course, are the National Football League Super Bowl-contending Philadelphia Eagles. They’ll play against the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, with Fox Sports broadcasting the game beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Local bars named to the board’s list include J.J. Ratigan Brewing Co. in Pottstown, Creekside Sports Bar & Grille in Limerick, Timeout Sports Bar in Skippack, City Works Eatery & Pour House in the King of Prussia Center, and Yard House Restaurant in the King of Prussia Mall. They were not ranked in any order.

The list was part of the content in the board’s most recent newsletter. It offers these descriptions of the locals:

  • J.J. Ratigan: “Not only are they rated #1 on High Street, J.J. Ratigan’s is one of Pottstown’s best places to catch a game. The menu is inspired by beer gardens from around the world and features craft beer made in Pottstown;”
  • Creekside: “13 HD TVs. 18 shareable apps. Eight burgers. Philly style steaks. The Creekside Sports Bar & Grille at the Landis Creek Golf Club in Limerick is the place to catch all the Philly sports action;”
  • Timeout: “With 22 TVs, shuffle board, darts, and more, Timeout Sports Bar is a local game day favorite in Skippack;”
  • City Works: “It’s King of Prussia Town Center’s neighborhood bar. City Works kicks everything up a notch with 14 flat screen TVs, 90 craft beers on draft, and a menu full of inspired bar food;” and
  • Yard House: “Yard House may be attached to the King of Prussia Mall, but this isn’t mall food. Yard House has 130 taps serving the best in American craft and imported beers.”

Joining the five in MontCo “Best Sports Bars” accolades were Flanigan’s Boathouse in Conshohocken; MaGerks Pub & Grill, in Horsham and Fort Washington; Well Crafted Beer Company, Lansdale; Black Powder Tavern, Wayne; Jasper’s Backyard, Conshohocken; Nippers Bar & Pizza, Norristown; Steppy’s Sports Bar & Grill at Facenda Whitaker Lanes, East Norriton; Taphouse 23, Bridgeport; and Stove & Tap, Lansdale.

Chosen separately were four additional bars labeled by the board as “Where to Watch Professional Soccer in Montco.” They were identified as Iron Abbey Gastro Pub, Horsham; King’s Corner Public House, Jenkintown; Drake Tavern, Jenkintown; and Chap’s Taproom, Eagleville.

You Can Join Thursday’s Pep Rally

Montgomery County residents, as well as other Eagles’ fans no matter where they call home, are invited to join a free Thursday (Feb. 6) pep rally. It starts at noon on the steps of the County Courthouse, 2 E. Airy St., Norristown. Hosted by the county, the rally features “live music, food, giveaways and plenty of team spirit!,” the tourism board notes.

As of Wednesday at 8 p.m., there was no indication on a county calendar webpage that impending bad weather would cancel the event. That’s possible, however, so check with the county or other knowledgeable sources on its status before traveling there.
