Weather Speed Limit Restrictions Lifted by PennDOT

Traffic Restrictions Continue Next Week on U.S. Route 422

UPDATE: All speed limit restrictions earlier placed by PennDOT, on interstates and major highways in the Philadelphia region during the winter storm, were lifted Monday at 2:51 p.m.

Read our earlier item about the restrictions, below.

45-mph Weather Speed Limits Set on U.S. 422, 222, 30

KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Speed limits are being reduced Monday (Jan. 6, 2025) to 45 miles per hour on U.S. Routes 422, 202, and 30; Interstate 476, due to weather conditions, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 6 office in King of Prussia says.

Speeds on four other highways – Interstates 95 and 295, U.S. Route 1, and state Route 309 – were similarly reduced. PennDOT attributes the changes to “the severity of the winter storm” that arrived earlier Monday across all of Montgomery County, and portions of eastern Berks and western Chester counties.

“Speed limits will be reduced on other roads as conditions warrant,” it notes. Additionally, it reports “commercial vehicles must stay in the right lane” speed restrictions are in place. In most cases, PennDOT says it “is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.”

The department also asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. For their own safety and that of plow operators, drivers should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading winter materials.

PennDOT’s report was issued Monday at 10:04 a.m.

Worthwhile Thrift in Collegeville Opens Later

COLLEGEVILLE PA – The customary 10 a.m. start-to-the-day in the Collegeville store of Worthwhile Thrift, 305 2nd Ave. Ste. 201, will be pushed back for Monday until noon, management says in a text to subscribing customers. Rewards offered under its loyalty program will be waiting when they get there, it added.

The message went out at about 9:30 a.m.

TriCounty Active Adult Center Closed Monday

POTTSTOWN PA – “The TRAAC (the center’s acronym) is closed Monday … due to the weather.  Please check back Tuesday,” it asks.

Weather Service Says Advisory Remains in Effect

Winter Advisory in Effect at Pottstown, MontCo to 10 p.m.
PennDOT and local road crews worked Sunday to salt and brine roads before the predicted winter weather hits

UPDATE: The National Weather Service expects up to another inch of snow Monday night across portions of southeast and and east central Pennsylvania, as well as southern New Jersey. As a result, the agency at 3:04 p.m. announced it would keep its earlier winter weather advisory in place until 10 p.m.

The weather service says low temperatures Monday night will drop between 20 degrees and the teens. “This will freeze up any areas of slush, potentially making roads quite icy in spots,” it notes. “Slow down and use caution while traveling,” it repeated.

Read an earlier published item, below, about the advisory.

Winter Advisory Continues Monday Until 10 p.m.

MOUNT HOLLY NJ – A winter weather advisory continues through Monday at 10 p.m. for Pottstown, Collegeville, Honey Brook, and Reading; all of Montgomery County, and western Chester County, the National Weather Service confirms.

“Snow will overspread the region … and intensify through Monday morning. It will then gradually taper off Monday afternoon and evening,” the service said Monday in a 3:10 a.m. report. Drivers should “plan on slippery road conditions,” it continued. “Hazardous conditions will impact Monday morning and evening commutes.”

Total snow accumulation is expected between 2 and 4 inches across portions of southern New Jersey and east central and southeast Pennsylvania, the service indicated. It urged travelers to “slow down and use caution while traveling.”
