45-mph Weather Speed Limits Set on U.S. 422, 222, 30
KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Speed limits are being reduced Monday (Jan. 6, 2025) to 45 miles per hour on U.S. Routes 422, 202, and 30; Interstate 476, due to weather conditions, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 6 office in King of Prussia says.
Speeds on four other highways – Interstates 95 and 295, U.S. Route 1, and state Route 309 – were similarly reduced. PennDOT attributes the changes to “the severity of the winter storm” that arrived earlier Monday across all of Montgomery County, and portions of eastern Berks and western Chester counties.
“Speed limits will be reduced on other roads as conditions warrant,” it notes. Additionally, it reports “commercial vehicles must stay in the right lane” speed restrictions are in place. In most cases, PennDOT says it “is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.”
The department also asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. For their own safety and that of plow operators, drivers should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading winter materials.
PennDOT’s report was issued Monday at 10:04 a.m.

The weather service says low temperatures Monday night will drop between 20 degrees and the teens. “This will freeze up any areas of slush, potentially making roads quite icy in spots,” it notes. “Slow down and use caution while traveling,” it repeated.
