Pottsgrove Recreation Programs Start Fit New Year

POTTSTOWN PA – A New Year of fun and fitness starts Monday (Jan. 6, 2025) with the first of a broad schedule of winter and spring activities offered by Pottsgrove Recreation for residents of Lower, Upper, and West Pottsgrove townships.

Available for adults are programs that include volleyball, gym use, country line dancing, a walk club, and swimming lessons. For those musically inclined, participation with the Pottsgrove Community Band also is available.

For youths Pottsgrove Recreation continues to offer volleyball (through Jan. 21, Tuesday); swimming lessons for both parents and children age 3 and younger, and for youngsters ages 3-15; youth basketball, and early registration for its popular month-long summer playground spanning June and July.

Here’s how its calendar shapes up:

Currently Scheduled Programs for Adults

Fit New Year Starts with Pottsgrove Recreation Programs

  • Adult volleyball resumed Jan. 7 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Ringing Rocks Elementary School, 1401 Kauffman Rd. Sessions are held weekly for eight weeks and continue through May 28. Fees can be paid by session or for the year.
  • Gym use is scheduled weekly, with fees paid by the week, season, or year.
  • Country line dancing is being held weekly for Wednesdays through Feb. 5, and then from March 19 to May 29, from 6:45-8:15 p.m. in the cafeteria of Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School, 1329 Buchert Rd. The pause between classes is due to a medical leave. Fees can be paid by the class, or for a group of 10 classes used at the participant’s convenience.
  • Adult swimming lessons for those age 16 and older got under way Jan. 9 for Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. at the Pottstown YMCA, 724 N. Adams St. Fees are paid for seven weekly lessons.
  • The “No Excuses” adult walk club returns beginning April 8 (Tuesday) from 6-8 p.m. on the track at Pennypacker Field behind Pottsgrove High School. An annual fee is charged.
  • The Pottsgrove Community Band continues through May 19. The band is a community outreach organization that performs at a variety of facilities throughout the area. Its membership consists of more than 65 active musicians from all walks of life, and of all ages. It practices Monday nights at 7 p.m. in the band room of Pottsgrove High School, 1345 Kauffman Rd., Pottstown.

Registration for adult programs is available online, or by calling Pottsgrove Recreation at 484-624-2507.

  • Swimming lessons for ages 3-15 started Jan. 6. They are offered as seven-week lesson plans for a single fee, and are available at the Pottstown YMCA on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings, or Saturday mornings. A notice of class times will be sent by e-mail about a week before lessons begin. Participants who need specific times should advise Pottsgrove Recreation at the time of registration.
  • Swimming lessons for parents with children age 3 and younger also started Jan. 6. They too are offered as seven-week lesson plans for a single fee, available at the Pottstown YMCA. Parents must be in the water with the child. A notice of class times will be sent by e-mail about a week before lessons begin. Participants who need specific times should advise Pottsgrove Recreation at the time of registration.
  • Youth volleyball for boys and girls ages 5-12 continues on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:15 p.m. through Jan. 21 in the gym at Ringing Rocks Elementary School. Fees are charged for full eight-week sessions.
  • Youth basketball will resume after the Pottsgrove High School varsity basketball season ends. More news on the program likely will be available during March.

Sign Up for Summer Playground

Although it’s months away, registration is already open for Pottsgrove Recreation’s summer playground program, scheduled for June 16 through July 20.

Early registrants can save $50 by signing up before Jan. 15 (Wednesday). Also, multi-child discounts interest-free plans of six payments are available only through Jan. 15. Prices will increase March 16 and May 16, and the June 2 final price will require a late fee. Additionally, the number of payments will decrease as the price rises.
