POTTSTOWN PA – A giggle-filled gala for children, billed as “the biggest celebration of the year before bedtime,” helped ring in 2025 on Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2024) at The Carousel in Pottstown. The event, sponsored by the Pottstown Children’s Discovery Center, brought smiles to dozens of young faces, and to those of parents and grandparents too.
The Discovery Center “Noon Year’s Eve” party for youngsters has become an entertainment fixture of recent years. The goal: keep kids happily occupied from 10 a.m. to noon, allow them to party somewhat like their adult escorts would later in the night, and provide a little learning on the side.
The Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation described it earlier during the week as “lots of fun for little ones who can’t quite stay up until midnight!”
Families reacted quickly to snatch up tickets, and registration closed several days ahead of the event. Ample space at the Carousel gave center staff, volunteers and board members plenty of room to set up tables with a variety of activities, and set aside floor areas for games and playthings. Popcorn was available for snacking.
While watching the children some adults sat comfortably on chairs and benches; others stood and chatted with neighbors. With the Carousel setting, of course, its assortment of brightly painted animals and seating gave everyone a chance to also take a whirlwind ride inside.
The most popular exhibit was a flaming success, literally. Each child received a white ceramic tile they could decorate in any way they chose, using markers in a wide array of colors. Completed tiles were then assembled on a tray and taken outside, where they were fired. Unexpected sights and sounds of the firing initially surprised and then enthralled young artists who watched from a safe distance.
As the party’s second hour of fun ticked toward noon, its crowd gathered below a large net suspended from the Carousel ceiling. It held an assortment of balloons. When the clock struck noon the net was loosened, balloons fell and – as far as the participants were concerned – another year was born.
