BOYERTOWN PA – Events staged in Boyertown for its merchants, the borough, and the public attracted tens of thousands of visitors during 2024, according to Building A Better Boyertown (BABB). The promotional organization, a part of Main Street America, looks ahead to more success in 2025, it says in a Wednesday (Dec. 25, 2024) report.
“We are so grateful for the vibrant and caring spirit that defines our community,” the non-profit agency notes, in its goal to provide “an unparalleled tourist experience for everyone.”
More than 200,000 visitors attended a full calendar of happenings during the past year, its newsletter states. They include a weekly Farmer’s Market, and annually scheduled experiences like “Coming Out of Hibernation,” a Regional Garden Contest, “Oktoberfest,” “Chillin’ On Main,” and several others. It also promoted events conducted by other Boyertown-based groups.
Nearly $85,000 in Four Grants
In plans to make innovations possible during coming years, BABB says it also received four noteworthy grants:
- $25,000, from the Berks County Planning Commission as part of the Imagine Berks Initiative, to fund trail development for its Secret Valley Trail Project. The project, first proposed in 2018, looks to create a trail that would connect Boyertown and Douglass Township (Berks) walkers and bicyclists to other trails in adjacent Montgomery County;
- $4,970, from a Berks County Community Foundation technology grant, to pay for technology upgrades and data networking;
- $30,000, also from the Berks County Community Foundation and its Marlene L. Driscoll Fund, for design and engineering services for the Marianne Deery Community Walkway Project. It would create a pocket-park and “gateway” to downtown “for people to gather,” sit, relax, and perhaps listen to live music; and
- $25,000, from the Keystone Communities Fund of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, for BABB’s Façade Grant Program. The façade program in 2021 helped launch more than two dozen business and property owner improvements, the Pottstown Mercury newspaper reported.
“As we move forward with each project, we’ll be sharing updates on our progress and the impact each grant is creating,” the organization pledged.
