Constellation Energy Tests Warning Sirens Dec. 2
LIMERICK PA – A twice-yearly, full-volume test of emergency warning sirens that surround the Limerick nuclear generating station will be held Monday (Dec. 2, 2024) at about 2 p.m., power plant owner Constellation Energy Corp. reports.
The warning system consists of sirens located within a 10-mile radius of Limerick and the station, now called the “Limerick Clean Energy Center.”
The sirens are not a signal to evacuate, Constellation says in a media release. Instead, they are intended to urge area residents to tune to a local Emergency Alert Broadcast television or radio station. County emergency management authorities activate the sirens.
The clean energy center is located just east of Lower Pottsgrove Township, roughly 21 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Constellation says it “produces enough carbon-free electricity to power 1.7 million homes.” The company is headquartered in Baltimore MD, and calls itself “the nation’s largest producer of clean, emissions-free energy, and a leading supplier of energy products and services.”
