POTTSTOWN PA – Unwrap the history behind 18th century Colonial holiday festivities by taking a Twelfth Night Tour at historic Pottsgrove Manor, 100 W. King St., during the next six weeks.
The museum is transformed for the season to highlight the festive traditions of Twelfth Night, a largely forgotten historic celebration. It origins and revelry, enjoyed by the borough’s founding Potts family and its guests, are among things visitors will learn during their tour.
Participants can discover more about the history of current holiday traditions, and see how they have changed over time. They’ll also see how the Potts children would have a different experience of the holiday season, compared to the festivities enjoyed by adults in the house.
Tours start Friday (Nov. 29, 2024), and end Jan. 12 (2025, Sunday). They are available daily, for a suggested donation of $2 per person, on Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 1-4 p.m. The historic site is closed Mondays; as well as on Dec. 24, 25, and 31, and Jan. 1; and during inclement weather.
These tours are suitable for all ages, and usually last 45 minutes to an hour. The last full tour of each day begins at 3 p.m.
Sights, Sounds, and Aromas of the Season
While on the tour, visitors also can enjoy:
Seeing elaborate desserts and special dishes created for the holiday. Members of “the household staff” will be on hand, preparing simple greenery decorations for the manor;
Humming and dancing along to favorite holiday songs with the Potts family; and
Viewing extensive interior and personal styling in the annual preparations for an upper-class party.
Additionally, its Museum Shop is expected to be open. It offers gifts, 18th-century replicas, books, and other items available for purchase.
