DOUGLASSVILLE PA – A sale of quilting supplies, a talk about quilt design, a silent quilt auction, and a chance for visitors to try their hand at quilting are on Saturday’s (Oct. 19, 2024) agenda in Douglassville.
Four hours of quilting-related activities – from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – form the last 2024 program of the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County at its Morlatton Village properties, 31 Old Philadelphia Pike. The event will be held in the village’s White Horse Tavern. A $2-per-person donation is suggested for admission.
On the day’s schedule:
- A silent auction preview of quilting fabric, books, magazines, and quilt accessory items begins at 9 a.m;
- Speaker Becky Hughes at 10 a.m. will discuss the importance of quilts, how fabric and designs have changed over time, and little-known facts about quilting. A quilt will be available for visitors to try quilting. Those who have a quilt they wish to share, or about which they have questions, are encouraged to bring it along; and
- The silent auction will follow the presentation until 1 p.m.
Proceeds from the auction benefit the trust and its restoration of the ground-level board floor of the Mouns Jones-Kirlin House in the village.
