Help Bluebirds in Your Yard Make It Through Winter

October 15, 2024

COLLEGEVILLE PA – A workshop that explains how area residents can assist eastern bluebirds during the winter will be held Nov. 9 (Saturday) from 9-11:45 a.m. at the Montgomery County Farm, Home, and Youth Complex Building, 1015 Bridge Rd.

Help Bluebirds in Your Yard Make It Through Winter

The event is being led by members of the Master Gardeners of Montgomery County. During a tour their experienced bluebird monitors will discuss the native bird, and share tips on attracting and supporting the local bluebird population.

The workshop and tour are free, as is parking. However, due to space limitations, advance online registration is required to ensure an available seat. Register here, or over the phone by calling toll-free to 1-877-345-0691.

Speakers will discuss the bird’s life cycle, habits, and nesting preferences. They also intend to explore efforts made to save the species, whose population has been in severe decline. Fortunately, they also can celebrate the bluebirds’ comeback success!

Bluebird nest kits available too

If desired, those who attend the workshop can purchase bluebird nest box kits. The kits feature plans designed to meet official North American Bluebird Society specifications.

Kits “make great gifts for yourself or your favorite bird enthusiast,” according to a Master Gardeners media release, “and building one will make for a memorable winter-season experience,” it says.

For questions about the event, call 610-489-4315.
