PENNSBURG PA – Visitors to the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 5-6, 2024) can see, and even operate, toy trains on display.
The free event runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. It features Lionel “O” Gauge trains from the Atlantic Division of the Train Collectors Association. The group’s interactive attraction includes working trains and multiple accessories, many of them designed to be operated by the audience.
‘Next Stop, Pennsburg.’ All-l-l- aboard!
While at the museum, guests also can check out “Next Stop Pennsburg: The History of Model Trains.” Its exhibit features dozens of toy trains of different gauges and periods, and provides interactive entertainment for children and adults to enjoy.
The Atlantic Division’s October layout continues the Schwenkfelder’s introduction to “Next Stop Pennsburg.” Another train layout in “S” gauge, created by “Toy Trains In Motion,” was similarly displayed at the heritage center during early September.
“We are delighted to announce (the) new exhibit in the Dolloff Local History Gallery,” a museum webpage reports. “Guest Curator Glenn Stinson, a collector himself, has identified important pieces from his collection and others to lend to the Heritage Center.” Visitors are likely to “see some unique and unexpected trains!,” it says.
“The exhibit will track (no pun intended) the development of model trains and regional train history,” the webpage adds. Also on display are varied pieces of “train-related ephemera.”
About the Schwenkfelder
The heritage center is the regional history center for the Upper Perkiomen Valley. Admission to visit its exhibits or conduct research in its library also is free.
It is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. The center has a wheelchair available at no charge, inside the main entrance, for visitors’ comfort. Additionally, accessible parking for vehicles displaying appropriate permits is clearly marked at its parking lot by the entrance. All floors are accessible by elevator.
