At Six Flags in NJ, Minors Need Chaperones After 5 p.m.

September 4, 2024

JACKSON TOWNSHIP NJ – Six Flags Great Adventure, an amusement park 90 minutes east of Pottstown, will enforce a new rule Saturday (Sept. 7, 2024) to require chaperones accompany anyone age 15 and younger. The rule so far is limited to attendance in the park after 5 p.m.

An increase in “unruly and inappropriate behavior” prompted the change, according to Six Flags management.

“The safety of our guests and associates has been our top priority at Six Flags Great Adventure,” the park said in a statement. In response to bad actors “across our industry and at other major entertainment venues,” it claims the “proactive steps (will) ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.”

The rule demands that chaperones:

  • Must be at least 21 years old;
  • At the ticket entrance, present a valid government-issued photo identification with a date of birth;
  • May accompany no more than 10 guests ages 15 or younger per day;
  • Must accompany the minors during entry, and remain inside the park during their visit; and
  • Must be available by phone.

Minors found inside the park unaccompanied by a chaperon may be ejected, it also states.

Looking ahead at Six Flags

“We believe these changes will help ensure that Six Flags Great Adventure continues to have a positive atmosphere, where generations of families and friends can gather for a day of safe fun and good food. Millions of guests have counted on us for exactly that, and we will continue to deliver on that promise for generations to come,” the statement also notes.

The park’s fall and winter seasons offer a schedule of special events, including an “Oktoberfest” celebration from Saturday through Nov. 3; its Halloween-themed “Fright Fest Extreme,” Sept. 13 to Nov. 3; “Kids Boo Fest,” Sept. 14 to Nov. 3; and “Holiday in the Park,” Nov. 23 to Jan. 1. Following its winter maintenance period, the park is expected to re-open during the spring.

Other Six Flags properties also announcing similar rules are those in St. Louis MO and Valencia CA.
