Schwenkfelder Center Offers September Craft Workshops

Schwenkfelder Center Offers September Craft Workshops

August 25, 2024

PENNSBURG PA – Filling your fall to-do calendars? Consider adding a hands-on workshop, the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center in Pennsburg suggests.

You can make a sgraffito plate, weave an apple picking basket, or enjoy a quilt turning, but you need to sign up soon. All details and registration can be found online by clicking on the date of workshop.

The deadline to sign up for the sgraffito pottery workshop is Sept. 14. To be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, Denise Wilz will lead in making a 7″ or 10″ plate. Sgraffito is a Pennsylvania German decorative technique of scratching into redware. The fee is $60, plus a material fee of $36 for a 7-inch plate; and $48 for a 10-inch plate.

Sept. 15 is the early bird registration of $35 for a quilt turning on Saturday, Oct. 19. Popular quilt detective Barbara Garrett will share insights into quilts in the Heritage Center collection that have not been on view before. Seatings are at 10 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Turnings fill up fast.

The basket-weaving workshop on Sept. 28 runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Karen Wychock returns to lead in weaving a traditional 8-inch or 10-inch apple basket. The fee is $60, plus a material fee of $40.

The Heritage Center, at 105 Seminary St., is the regional history center for the Upper Perkiomen Valley.
