POTTSTOWN PA – In this edition of Pottstown Foodie: A Friday grand opening for the newest Rita’s Ice. Bob Evans Farmhouse Kitchen offers new menu items for fall. And, a ballroom unveiling Sunday at Stokesay Castle.

Rita’s Italian Ice Marks Grand Opening in Phoenixville

PHOENIXVILLE PA – Friday (Aug. 23, 2024) is “Grand Opening Day” for one of the newest Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard operations on the planet.

That’s when the frozen treats brand will start its 3 p.m. observance. It says the first 50 guests in line at that time outside its new Phoenixville store, 472 Nutt Rd., will win “free Rita’s Italian Ice for a Year!”

There are qualifications, though. Only one winner per household is allowed, verification information may be required, and the free coupons are usable only at the Phoenixville store.

From 3-5 p.m., visitors can take photos with Rita’s mascot Ice Guy, play the Rita’s prize wheel, benefit from merchandise giveaways, and enjoy a face painter and balloon twister. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held the same day at 4 p.m., hosted by local franchisee Lou Gioia.

Throughout the day the shop will offer guests a small Italian ice for $2, and a small gelati for $3.

Rita’s calls itself “the world’s largest Italian ice and frozen custard brand. Founded in Bensalem PA during 1984, the company now operates more than 550 shops across more than 30 states. Its “signature Italian ice is made fresh daily on-site, and is available daily in a rotating selection” of more than 80 flavors.

Reading’s Stokesay Castle Ballroom Gets A Make-Over

READING PA – A Sunday (Aug. 25, 2024) celebration will mark the completion of renovations in the ballroom of Stokesay Castle, its management says.

The ballroom renovation “represents a significant investment in the preservation and enhancement” of the historic venue, they reported in an early August media release. Those attending Sunday’s by-invitation party “will have the opportunity to see first-hand the modern upgrades … made while maintaining the castle’s unique charm and elegance.”

In addition to local news organizations, Stokesay also is inviting “wedding couples” to “witness the unveiling, and enjoy a sneak peek of the transformed space.”

The castle, and its accompanying The Knight’s Pub, are located at 141 Stokesay Castle Ln., Reading PA. The nearly 100-year-old venue for weddings, and corporate and social functions, has undergone a multi-million-dollar series of renovations since it was bought by local purchasers in March 2009. The ballroom represents its latest upgrade.

“Pottstown Foodie” is a public Facebook page operated by The Post Publications and its Travels With The Post edition.
