Washington Memorial Chapel to Observe Purple Heart Day

August 5, 2024

KING OF PRUSSIA PA – A special National Purple Heart Day service and reception is scheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2024) at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge.

Th event is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel, 2000 Valley Forge Rd., King of Prussia. It will feature an exclusive speaking engagement by George Turak, founder of the Mount America Foundation and a Vietnam War veteran. It is free to attend and open to the public, but online advance registration is required.

During the service, Turak will offer stories about his time in the Vietnam War, as well as his experience forming the Mount America Foundation.

The foundation is a non-profit that serves veterans, as well as active duty and National Guard and Reserve service members, first responders, and their families. It also honors families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

A reception will follow the service, which is being hosted by the chapel Veterans Commission.

Purple Heart Day, observed annually on Aug. 7, honors men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield or lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military. The day is set aside for Americans to remember and honor those who valiantly represented the nation, and were decorated with a Purple Heart in the name of the President.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Purple Heart Day.

The Veterans Commission states it “exists to honor all those who have served our country; to show God’s love through service; to provide spiritual support to active members as well as fellow veterans and their families; and to help build stronger Christian relationships among veterans and surrounding communities.”
