Foodscaping Among Flowers, Shrubs; Learn How Aug. 17

Foodscaping Among Flowers, Shrubs; Learn How Aug. 17

August 4, 2024

COLLEGEVILLE PA – An workshop to show gardeners the benefits of foodscaping – growing edible plants (think vegetables and herbs) among perennials and shrubs – is being planned in Collegeville.

The Master Gardeners of Montgomery County have scheduled the in-person workshop for Aug. 17 (2024; Saturday) at 9:30 a.m. in the Maple Room at the Farm, Home, and Youth Center, 1015 Bridge Rd. Free parking is available.

The event is free and open to the public. However, space is limited, and advance registration is required. Register online, or by calling 1-877-345-0691. Any donations to benefit the Master Gardeners’ program are appreciated.

Foodscaping “maximizes the biodiversity and productivity of a garden while maintaining an aesthetic appeal,” the Master Gardeners explain. Those who attend the workshop will learn considerations in designing a foodscaping garden. They also will be guided on choosing edibles suitable for the amount of light, soil conditions, and existing plants.

Beyond the presentation, participants also will visit a foodscaping garden at the center.

Several of the county’s Master Gardeners are workshop presenters. As volunteers, they are specially trained and certified by Penn State Extension. Master Gardeners provide education on a broad range of horticultural topics. They also can advise community residents on best practices based on university research and recommendations.

For more information, call 610-489-4315.
