HARRISBURG PA – Enjoy some “cool sips” with your summer hot dogs, the state’s Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores proposed Thursday (July 11, 2024).
In fact, an e-mail from the stores directed readers to a webpage full of suggestions. They are operated by the Harrisburg-based Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB). The board describes itself as “one of the largest purchasers of beverage alcohol in the United States.”
It paired six styles of wieners with six packaged cocktails. The result is “the ultimate combination of convenience and flavor,” the board’s presentation boasted.
Check your preferred supermarket or butcher for the meats and condiments. As for the beverages, Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores are located in Pottstown, Gilbertsville, North Coventry, Douglassville, Royersford, Upper Providence, Schwenksville, Collegeville, Harleysville, Audubon, Phoenixville, Pennsburg, and Birdsboro.
Introducing the PLCB pairings
Its recommendations:
- New York Hot Dog, and Crown Royal Washington Apple Cocktail. New York Hot Dogs feature sauerkraut, sweet onion relish, and brown mustard. “The savory richness of the New York Hot Dog contrasts delightfully with the sweet, tangy notes of the Crown Royal Washington Apple Cocktail,” it said;
- Seattle-Style Hot Dog, and On The Rocks Tres Generaciones Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita Cocktail. Seattle-Style Hot Dogs are topped with cream cheese, brown mustard and jalapeños, and served with a side of chips. The hot dog’s “bold, smoky flavors … complement the spicy kick and tropical sweetness” of the margarita;
- Texas Tommy Hot Dog, and Jameson Lemonade Cocktail. Topping the Texas Tommy are bacon and melted American cheese, offering “robust flavors (that) harmonize beautifully with the smooth, whiskey-infused zest of the cocktail. This blend, the board claimed, “creates a fusion of Texas spirit and Irish charm in every bite and sip;”
- Hawaiian Puka Hot Dog, and High Noon Passionfruit Vodka Hard Seltzer. The hot dog is topped by lemon garlic, tropical relish, and passionfruit mustard. Its “savory sweetness … complements the tropical tang of the hard seltzer, according to the board, “creating flavors of island bliss;”
- Sonoran Hot Dog, and High Noon Lime Vodka Hard Seltzer. The board recommends three Sonoran hot dogs topped with pinto beans, relish, onions, peppers, and pico de gallo, all served on a wood board. Their “rich, savory flavors … are contrasted by the crisp, refreshing lime zest of the seltzer; and
- Kansas-Style Hot Dog, and MaryCan Bloody Mary Cocktail. That’s two Kansas-Style Hot Dogs served on a wood board and topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing. The dogs pair “perfectly with the spices and tangy goodness” of the cocktail, in “a satisfying balance of savory and savory-sweet,” the board said.
