BLUE BELL PA – Four area residents were among 24 cadets who graduated this month from the Municipal Police Academy at Montgomery County Community College, it reported.
The local graduates are Sgt. Jeremy L. Geisler of Royersford; Michael A. D’Annunzio, Audubon; Staff Sgt. Scott M. Boegly, King of Prussia; and Luke A. Turner, King of Prussia.
Additionally:
- Boegly received the academy’s Award of Distinction; and
- Geisler received the $1,000 Whitpain Police Association Award, given to a cadet who has exemplified superior conduct throughout the academy program. It recognizes the cadet “who went above and beyond to help, encourage, and support their fellow cadets.”
Of the 24 graduates, 11 were sponsored by area police departments, according to the college. Seven cadets were hired or received conditional offers upon completion of the program. Three more are expected to be hired over the next few weeks.
“As you embark on your careers in law enforcement, I encourage you to carry the values of justice, fairness, and equity instilled in you throughout this program,” MCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost Dr. Chae Sweet said during the ceremony. The principles they learned, she added, should “guide your actions as you serve and safeguard the diverse communities entrusted to your care.”
About the police academy
The academy requires 919 hours of training and 26 exams, its director, Georgette (Sissy) Hill, explained. This year, its testing program produced a record-making star: class valedictorian, cadet Lt. Roderick Fancher III. Fancher, a former prosecutor in the county District Attorney’s Office, scored a 99.11 average across 26 exams. It’s the highest score the academy has ever seen, Hill noted.
Since 1973, the academy has been the training center for more than 4,100 cadets. It has maintained a consistent graduation rate of more than 90 percent. Its curriculum allows successful students to articulate up to 15 credit hours toward an associate degree in criminal justice.
The academy is certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission. Many of its alumni serve as officers and in leadership roles throughout the county and the region. MCCC operates the Municipal Police Academy in the Health Sciences Center on its Blue Bell Campus.
