TRAPPE PA – Enjoy street-side open-air dining? Then you’re likely to savor what Historic Trappe offers July 14 (2024; Sunday) from 5-8 p.m. There is, however, a tiny difference in venue.
The non-profit organization is dedicated to preserving the borough’s past. To that end, its scheduled fund-raising dinner occurs next month on Main Street. Not just at the curbs but between them, smack-dab in the middle of Main.
Oh, don’t worry about traffic. The highway will be blocked while you dine.
“Dinner on Main,” as the event is known, is an annual tradition in Trappe. Tickets for the meal are available now for purchase online, for both Historic Trappe members and non-members. Beverage options include beer, wine, and ice tea. The repast, featuring a variety of foods, is served by local restaurants.
Participating restaurants
Fourteen have signed up so far to provide portions of the grand meal. Confirmed participants include Aavya Indian Cuisine, Ava’s Ice Cream, Buttercup Bistro, Captain’s Market, Catering by Brenda Carter, Grace’s Cafe, Italian Delite, Jasmine Asian House, Kimberton Whole Foods, Marzella’s, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Siam Deluxe, Speck’s, and Troubles End Brewing.
The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 5 p.m. “Grab a drink and head over to the Muhlenberg House, where you can travel back in time as you explore the house’s colonial furnishings and herb garden. Then stroll on down to the Speaker’s House to check out the newly-restored kitchen and adjacent kitchen garden,” Historic Trappe suggests.
At 6 p.m., head back to the street for dinner and join your friends and neighbors at the long communal table. The dinner will be located on Main between the Speaker’s House and the Muhlenberg House. “Live music will round out a memorable summer evening,” it adds.
Parking is available at the Trappe Shopping Center, accessible from Main Street (for westbound traffic only), or from Route 113. In case of rain, the dinner will be held the same day at Arader Farm, 746 S. Trappe Rd., Collegeville PA.
Double your pleasure
Historic Trappe also plans to hold its annual Tavern Night event Sept. 26 (Thursday) from 5-8 p.m. A German-themed buffet dinner, accompanied by dessert, wine, hard cider, and craft beer will be offered at the organization’s Dewees Tavern, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are not yet available.
The tavern doubles as the organization’s location for the Center for Pennsylvania German Studies. It includes five galleries for changing exhibitions and displays of furniture, ironwork, pottery, textiles, fraktur, paintings, and other items were by talented Pennsylvania German craftspeople and artisans.
