Pottsgrove Summer Playground Registration Deadline Looms

Pottsgrove Summer Playground Registration Deadline Looms

June 11, 2024

POTTSTOWN PA – There’s still an opportunity to find satisfying, safe, and supervised summer activities for kindergarten through 8th-grade students living within the Pottsgrove School District, no matter where they attend school. But here’s a last-minute heads-up for their parents and guardians. The deadline to sign youngsters up in weeks of fun is only days away.

Pottsgrove Summer Playground Registration Deadline Looms

Friday (June 14, 2024) is the last day of registration for this year’s Pottsgrove Recreation Summer Playground. Enrollment remains available now, and can be completed online.

Pottsgrove Recreation’s program includes planned entertainment, daily drinks, treats on “Water Ice Wednesdays” and “2024 Philly Pretzel Days,” special activities, field trips, and swimming. It is offered at all-inclusive pricing: $225 for a four-week enrollment, or $275 for five weeks.

The Summer Playground will operate weekdays from Monday (June 17) through July 19 (Friday), except for scheduled closures on June 19, July 4, and July 5. Its regular hours will be Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School, 1329 Buchert Rd. Fridays will be filled with swimming at the North End pool.

Pottsgrove Recreation this year observes its 55th anniversary of providing recreational opportunities to both children and adults. Participants at the playground will celebrate its founding with a July 16 party.

One program, two benefits

Pottsgrove Recreation offers benefits for adults and children alike. Parents and guardians can be assured children are provided with supervised inside and outside activities like games, crafts, and sports. The program keeps their minds active, too. Several field trips are already planned. So are visits by special guests, accompanied by “hands on” activities.

On tap for field trips and special activities are:

  • Friday swimming excursions at North End pool;
  • Field trips to the Schuylkill River Greenways, Flagship Movie Theater, The Challenger Discovery Center (open only for those in Grade 5 and higher), and elsewhere;
  • Cool treats on Water Ice Wednesdays;
  • Chewy treats during Philly Pretzel Days on Thursdays; and
  • Visits by staff members from the Pottstown Regional Public Library.

Summer Playground will encourage children to have new experiences, make new friends, be active, be engaged, learn new games, be creative, discover new talents and, most importantly, have fun. Activities in which they participate, organizers said, can build life skills such as teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Got questions about the program, or in need of more information? Call, or send a text, to Director of Recreation Pam Ball at the Pottsgrove Recreation Board, 484-624-2507. She also can be reached by sending an e-mail to director@pottsgroverec.com.

Times of the regularly scheduled program may change on occasion, depending on the nature of the program’s trips and special events. Changes will be outlined on the program calendar. A complete schedule of activities will be available the first day of attendance, as well as on the Pottsgrove Recreation website.

Children may attend playground on the days they are available. Daily attendance before scheduled trips is strongly suggested. Children will be offered drinks, including bottled water, daily. Adults responsible for children enrolled should immediately ensure the playground staff is aware of any allergies.

Scholarship donors sought

There’s a continuing demand for scholarships to support district children whose families are otherwise unable to afford their attendance at the 2024 Summer Playground. Donations in any amount, which will help someone’s child enjoy the summer, are being accepted now online.
