Steel River Presents Last ‘Prom’ Performance Sunday

June 4, 2024

POTTSTOWN PA – Final performances of “The Prom,” a heart-warming story of inclusion and acceptance, are scheduled for Friday (June 7, 2024) at 7 p.m., Saturday (June 8) at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday (June 9) at 2 p.m. at Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St.

Tickets are available now online. The production closes out the non-profit theater’s 2023-2024 season.

“The Prom” is “an important story, because at its root it is a matter of civil rights. It’s a reminder that every person has the right to celebrate and love who they love out loud,” director David Williams notes. It also offers hilarity, catchy music, and dazzling dance numbers.

The story: “Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. When they hear trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue … and themselves.”

“The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow, but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with the courageous girl and the town’s citizens. The result is love that brings them all together.”

The show’s book is by Bob Martin and Chad Beugelin, with lyrics by Beugelin, and music by Matthew Sklar. Williams directs, with music direction by Jake Leonowitz and choreography by Amanda Morrell.

The running time for the two-act show is about 2 hours and 30 minutes with one intermission. Tickets cost $29 for adults, $24 for those age 65 and older, and $17 for students. Choose seats and buy tickets online, or call the Box Office at 610-970-1199.

Looking ahead to next season

Although all productions and dates are subject to change, Steel River during its coming 2024-2025 season plans to present:

  • “Legally Blonde,” in July 2024;
  • A musical to be announced during June, for staging in October 2024;
  • “Annie,” December 2024;
  • “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” February 2025;
  • “Barefoot in the Park,” March 2025;
  • A play to be announced during October, for staging in April 2025; and
  • “Mary Poppins,” in May and June 2025.

A variety of subscription packages, all of which represent a savings over general admission pricing, are available now for online ordering. Find Steel River’s best value, its full season tickets, here.

The theater also provides “Family Fun Packs” that include three family-friendly productions of the new season: “Annie,” “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” and “Mary Poppins.” Find Fun Packs here.
